PUBLIC WORKS LABOURER/EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
The Town of Manning is seeking a dependable and safety-minded Public Works Labourer with equipment operator experience to join our team.
Reporting to the Public Works Foreman, the successful candidate will perform a variety of outdoor maintenance, snow removal, equipment, and general labour duties while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general labour, maintenance, snow removal, and public works activities.
- Operate and maintain tools, vehicles, machinery, and equipment.
- Dig and backfill trenches, compact and level earth, and assist with worksite projects.
- Conduct daily equipment and tool inspections and report hazards or maintenance needs.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
- Follow all health and safety procedures, legislation, and Town policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Public Works Foreman.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Valid Class 3 Alberta Driver’s Licence with Air Brake Endorsement is an asset, however, not necessary.
- Knowledge of construction materials, methods, tools, and equipment safety.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and respond effectively in a changing environment.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, standing, walking, and working outdoors in varying conditions.
- A strong commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.

WATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR – ENTRY LEVEL
The Town of Manning is seeking a dependable and motivated individual to join our team as an Entry-Level Water Treatment Plant Operator. This position provides an opportunity for someone working toward their Level 1 Water Treatment Operator certification, or a current Level 1 Operator looking to gain experience.
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, and current level 3 operators, the successful candidate will assist with the safe and efficient operation of the Town’s water treatment and distribution systems while also supporting the Public Works Department as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the operation and monitoring of water treatment processes and equipment.
- Perform routine plant inspections, testing, maintenance, and record keeping.
- Monitor water quality and chemical treatment processes under direction.
- Maintain daily operating logs, records, inventories, and work orders.
- Assist with preventative maintenance and minor repairs to plant equipment, vehicles, and facilities.
- Follow all water quality, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with water and sewer system maintenance and related Public Works activities.
- Perform general labour, equipment maintenance, and outdoor work as required.
- Respond to operational issues and report concerns to the supervisor.
- Participate in training and ongoing development toward Water Treatment Operator certification.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Level 1 Water Treatment Operator certification or willingness to obtain Level 1 certification.
- Previous experience in water treatment, public works, mechanical maintenance, construction, or a related field is an asset.
- Valid Alberta Driver’s License; Class 3 with Air Brake Endorsement is an asset.
- Basic computer, mathematical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong commitment to safety, reliability, and learning.
- Ability to perform physical work, including lifting, standing, walking, climbing, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Willingness to work around water, chemicals, noise, confined spaces, and other operational environments.
